Schadenfreude, Part I

I want pictures of moving trucks in front of Blaney House.

If you can’t do that for me, monetary donations are always welcome.

But I’d rather have the pictures.

well, you got me on this one brother…………………..?……………….

  2. Modern Minor General Says:

And keep an eye out for Garrison’s missing phone records as you watch the boxes being loaded.

  3. Happy Keller Says:

With all this extra time on his hands Garrison might have time to read Agatha’s new book “The Purloined Letter Grade.” Fiction can be almost as strange as fact.

  4. Cleaning House Says:

Maybe they’ll find Heather’s missing academic records during the move? A receipt that shows that Heather really paid $50 dollar graduation fee? A pic of Heather at her faux graduation? Records that show that Technoman and 71 others really did earn their eMBAs too?

  5. Pat Bibbee Wannabe Says:

I wonder if President Magrath might need new artwork for the walls of Blaney House. I’d be willing to to buy HK’s “Nuking the Site from Orbit is the Only Way to be Sure” to cover any bare wall in public view.

  6. Steph Says:

I’m thinking it will be difficult ot obtain real photos (helicopter and telephoto lens, maybe). A departing truck once off the grounds, perhaps.

I’m wondering what Schadenfreude Part II can mean.

  7. Is It So? Says:

I’m hearing a rumor that MG is going back to Spilman? Is that true?

  8. Cleaning House Says:

Steph, maybe you and Lou can dress up as moving guys/gals and assist with Garrison’s move so that you can get the pics HK needs.

  9. Just me Says:

I’m hearing that Heather Garrison and the girls moved out at least some things a few weeks ago to get some privacy. They are rumored to be staying in the country, possibly at a farm house owned by Mike Garrison’s sister, Lisa.

  10. Cleaning House Says:

Can’t wait to find out what Schadenfreude Part II can mean, too. Translated from the original German, I think, Schadenfreude means “Christmas in July.” Merry July everyone.

  11. Lou Says:

Cleaning house, if we can’t be the movers, maybe we can be the cleaning people that straighten up as the move occurs

There are some offices on the upper floors of Allen Hall that might have a good view of any moving activity. I don’t know who may be housed in those offices, though. Anybody know?

  12. Also An Alum Says:

I will gladly commit to an additional “love offering” to HK’s pledge drive efforts if we can also see photos of Mike personally loading the dogs in the car for the last trip down Riverview Drive.

  13. Hardy Mountaineer Says:

Some people in his old neighborhood say he’s moving back.

  14. Steph Says:

Cleaning House - don’t translate (always a tricky and nasty task for German) just look it up.

  15. LaReina Says:

I recently spoke to a friend who lives in Houston, TX. She had heard about Heathergate and wondered WTF that was all about.

Another great triumph of marketing WV to the rest of the country, Mojo.

  16. Steph Says:

Google Alerts just posted something form Emily Corrio WVPR about the vague secret agreement that was publicly voted on July 8. While it’s no surprise, it seems that new BOG members not up to speed just let this pass. Then again, that’s what does need to happen with MG. Open Meetings sacrificed to get rid of MG - now that’s rich.

  17. Molly's Mom Says:

Steph, do you have link to the Emily Corrio piece?

  18. Steph Says:

    Molly’s Mom:

Here’s the link. I like the fact that she documents her repeat efforts, and it makes them all look worse each time.

    http://www.wvpubcast.org/blogs.aspx?id=3432&blogid=338

  19. always interested Says:

Molly’s Mom- It’s on the MIR site- http://www.wvumir.org click on the ‘blog’ link and the news columns pull up on the lower left.

  20. always interested Says:

    That would be lower right!

  21. Molly's Mom Says:

Thanks and the Corrio piece with the Post Gazette lawsuit seeking information about phone calls should tell us this ain’t over.

  22. always interested Says:

While you’re on the MIR link, check out the Red Orbit article by Veronica Nett that talks about an investigation into the eMBA program. Apparently Nelson Robinson of HEPC asked for a review of the program, and Brian Noland will consult with Peter Magrath before going ahead with it. I certainly hope they do the review, as the independent panel members stand by the review they did when they cleared WVU of record-keeping errors. I would love to hear Jonathan Cumming’s explanation for his testimony in front of the BOG during Garrison’s last stand. He even said he found that Heather had 36 credits.

  23. poliscigeek Says:

As a spectator of this sport , I found it curious that Garrison’s wife’s name is also Heather…..hmmmm.

So Garrison and others lose their positions, others are demoted, WVU crashes and burns and HB lives on unscathed in her highly compensated position - honestly, how do certain people sleep at nite?

  24. PG Reader Says:

Schadenfreude - for those of you not familiar…

  25. fishferfun Says:

From the WV Code — Open Meetings law

§6-9A-7. Violation of article; criminal penalties; attorney fees and expenses in civil actions.
    (a) Any person who is a member of a public or governmental body required to conduct open meetings in compliance with the provisions of this article and who willfully and knowingly violates the provisions of this article is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars: Provided, That a person who is convicted of a second or subsequent offense under this subsection is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than one hundred dollars nor more than one thousand dollars.

    (b) A public agency whose governing body is adjudged in a civil action to have conducted a meeting in violation of the provisions of this article may be liable to a prevailing party for fees and other expenses incurred by that party in connection with litigating the issue of whether the governing body acted in violation of this article, unless the court finds that the position of the public agency was substantially justified or that special circumstances make an award of fees and other expenses unjust.

    (c) Where the court, upon denying the relief sought by the complaining person in the action, finds that the action was frivolous or commenced with the primary intent of harassing the governing body or any member thereof or, in the absence of good faith, of delaying any meetings or decisions of the governing body, the court may require the complaining person to pay the governing body’s necessary attorney fees and expenses.

  26. poliscigeek Says:

36 credits — yeah right!!!! Don’t hold your breath.
I still cannot get over this. As a graduate with a Master’s degree, I surely knew when I completed the requirements to have the degree conferred. I would think that anyone with a vested interest in receiving the degree even if only for “personal fulfillment” would absolutely know whether or not the requirements to receive the degree were met. Notwithstanding the question of ethics, how in the heck can she be in the position she is in, directing the efforts and operations of a multibillion dollar global company? Go figure!!!

  27. Thomp Says:

Spilman wont touch him with a ten foot pole.

  28. Hardy Says:

And Spilman made that very clear early on. Ditto Mylan. With the SEC looking over its shoulder, they would be idiots to let him in the gate.

  29. Purple Sage Says:

Policigeek: On an earlier thread someone implied that Puskar was under some sort of sanction from either the FTC or SEC to stay out of the day to day operations of the company, and that Heather was his “dummy.”

  30. PPGletter: Says:

Poliscigeek: others also wonder about her

    http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08197/896995-28.stm

  31. Mntnmama Says:

Speaking of law firms, HK, can you put anything together on the public broadcasting stuff? I’ve been told that Garrison was very involved in shaking up WVPBS and cutting their budget in order to settle a personal score with a lawyer on the board — apparently based on some disagreement that came up when they worked for the same law firm. Who’s the director of WVPBS? How is he connected to the power pipple? (Pipple is a cross between people and piffle. This is a word that needs to exist.)

  32. demosthenes.or.locke Says:

It wasn’t “some disagreement” it was Garrison being mad because he got fired for being a lazy incompetent fuckwad. Or at least thats the tale being told.

  33. garrisonmustgo Says:

Back in May when my wife and I were looking at new homes, one of the places we looked at was MG’s old place on Horseshoe Dr. I didn’t mention this at the time, because I don’t think many people were looking at the place, so I could have been easily traced (not that I have been trying too hard to remain annon).

While we were thee, there were a few things I found interesting.

    1. The phone was still hooked up and there was a voice mail. Like I said, this was in May. Long after the Garrisons had moved out. I was tempted to check it. I had a vision of it being Heather B calling back in October saying somthing like “Dude, You gotta help me, the PPG is on my ass about my MBA”

    2. In a closet in a spare bedroom was WVU graduation robes. I did take a look at these, and they were not his presidential robes. There was also a brief case in that closet. Since it was not locked, I did notice some files in there, but I did not go through them to see what they were. Maybe I found the missing phone records.

    3. The most interesting thing I found was in what appeared to be an office. Keep in mind that there was no furniture in the house at all. Excluding the phone, robes and brief case, the house was pretty much empty. But in the office was a paper shredder. and it was full of shredded paper. You do not know how badly I wanted to take that bag of paper home with me so I could try to put it back together.

Anyway, I just thought some of you may find that stuff interesting.

BTW, the house is no longer on the market.

  34. _/|TECHNOMAN|\_ Says:

    ROFL, Cleaning House.

I have no need to rummage through MG’s moving boxes to validate my degree. I have a file cabinet full of completed work and 30 years worth of student loans to attest to that already.

HEPC’s planning a review of the eMBA program, always interested? Good. Since WVU apparently isn’t interested in resolving this for the legit grads themselves. Interesting that it came from Nelson Robinson, though. He’s a member of the HEPC because he’s the chair of the CTC Council. Maybe he’s got less to lose by asking the question.

  35. _/|TECHNOMAN|\_ Says:

garrisonmustgo, your last post has the distinctive aftertaste of creepy. :-)

  36. always interested Says:

Not to sound jaded or anything, but I suspect the motives for that review of the eMBA program by the HEPC. I’m confident though, that Magrath would not permit a fiasco designed to make the ‘mistakenly’ awarded degree look more acceptable. Which was basically the reason for the testimony Cummings gave to the BOG.

  37. fox hunter Says:

Techno: The independent panel DID resolve the issue–the Bresch “degree” was an isolated incident. Other degrees are good. Beating the degree drum was a ploy by Cumming to curry favor with Garrison & Co while they still held power. Cumming’s move should be recognized for what it was: kissing up.

  38. _/|TECHNOMAN|\_ Says:

AI - I don’t blame you for your suspicions. Something isn’t adding up for me. Robinson’s job is to fight his butt off for the CTC system to get sufficient funds after the WVU and MU juggernauts are done at the trough. I’m grappling with why the request came from him. He has nothing to gain as the CTCS chair by pushing the review, but I do know that he’s well connected at the capitol. Yeah, he’s got my interest.

I’m not overly concerned about an HEPC-centric review of the program. They’re sitting on a comprehensive data repository that will squeal like a chicken if any of the numbers get toasted.

  39. Just wondering Says:

Not to change the subject, but…any word on what (if anything) is going on at HSC?

  40. horse Says:

It is FAR from over. It was just announced that the Interim VP Research was made permanent. NO NATIONAL SEARCH, no search period from what I can tell. The announcement said that the decision was made last week. Who would have made it? I would have had to be the Garrison-Goodwin cartel. Interim Provost Martin was the only one who commented. Is she next to be made permanent without a search? Magrath must likely had little if any input into the VP Research. It is an important position that the next President, if he/she is of the caliber desired, would have wanted to vet.

Remember that the Research Corp hired and paid the HSC consultants. With Lang supposedly also headed for the research corp and Satterfield already there, will Garrison be far behind? THIS REEKS.

  41. Poe Dunk Says:

I saw that about Peterson and the pathetic Jane Martin remarks. The Research Corp is fair game for investigation. And the HSC Search Committee is now working with the search consultants? This really needs some presidential input before things get more set in concrete.

  42. Aunt Agatha Says:

    _/|TECHNOMAN|\_:

In my next mystery novel, tentatively titled “The Purloined Letter Grade,” I will explain how data don’t squeal. And people only squeal when confronted with a bloody weapon that is registered in their name. I don’t expect the HEPC to reveal anything worthwhile.

  43. Molly's Mom Says:

I am certain that the “investigation” by HEPC was not the idea of Nelson Robinson.

  44. _/|TECHNOMAN|\_ Says:

We’re on the same page, Auntie. I don’t expect an HEPC investigation to put the reputation of my degree in any darker light than it already is. It will be a neutral or positive outcome, if anything. I’m more curious about its origin.

Congratualtions on mastering my screen handle. Your first attempt looked like someone shrugging his shoulders. :-)

I don’t get the gig about your book. What do letter grades have to do with purring loins? Is it a romance novel?

  45. Aunt Agatha Says:

Ah, _/|TECHNOMAN|\_, you should have guessed that my new detective is a cat!

  46. Devil Anse Says:

Is it possible that Mr. Garrison will become so upset re his perceived mistreatment that he will leave the State and never return until he is rich and famous?

  47. LaReina Says:

    >>>>>>Molly’s Mom Says:
    >>>>July 16, 2008 at 12:37 pm
    >>>>I am certain that the “investigation” by HEPC was not the idea of >>>>Nelson Robinson.

He’s at least as corrupt as Manchin and Garrison, so it seems unlikely.

  48. Hardy Mountaineer Says:

    And not as smart.

  49. mteerfish Says:

horse: very asute comments and thanks for the info.

I continue to believe the HSC is the real gem in the game.

To me: keep a high spotlight on 2 issues: HSC and JM (not his opposition.)

  50. mteerfish Says:

the more the spotlight stays on JM, the less support he will have, no matter the opposition. Lame duck even if he wins.

  51. Hardy Mountaineer Says:

I don’t see a lessening of support for him at all among politicians.

  52. poliscigeek Says:

Hey PPG letter: yeah, I know. At what point, I wonder, will any action be taken to address what she has done? Or is this, I fear, another case of the entitled getting away with it?

  53. PPGletter Says:

It’s totally a case of the entitled getting away with it. As the headline for the letter says, she’s “very fortunate”. Except for a few letters and reader’s comments, I’ve seen nothing to indicate any action.

She just sat by and let everyone else take the fall.

  54. fox hunter Says:

    http://www.register-herald.com/local/local_story_198225806.html

We can only hope to Shadenfreude over the demise of Manchin.

  55. fox hunter Says:

PPG lawsuit over lack of access to Garrison’s phone records. Oh goody, more depositions!

    http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08198/897224-298.stm

  56. PPGletter Says:

Looks like we’ve gone beyond the Gov’s original reference to bringing in Scotland Yard. Maybe she’ll include the Vatican in her list next time!

    Geez!

  57. TT Says:

Okay, so we have reports that Bill Case has taken a $50,000 paycut and will continue to do communications at HSC. What does anyone think about this?

  58. Just wondering Says:

TT: That’s wrong in so many ways; aside from the obvious! There are folks who work there full-time diligently and silently doing their jobs for years who don’t even earn half of his “slap on the wrist” salary forfeiture “penalty”. Pitchforks and torches!

  59. TT Says:

I totally agree. I’m still waiting for someone to admit to wrong doing. This doesn’t do it for me either.

  60. Looselips Says:

    Regarding the HSC

There is no one with a plan. There has never been anyone with a plan. Departments implode because the powers that be do not engage in dialogue or action to meet the reasonable demands made by excellent physicians, so the physicians leave. Then the powers that be throw money at the department to save face. This has happened over and over and over again. The HSC needs leadership with a plan.

  61. Looselips Says:

And I am not saying that the leaders at the HSC are evil. I am saying that they are not qualified for the job.

  62. in_the_dark Says:

Looselips: you are right on the money. The other problem with the leadership is that they don’t know what they don’t know. By that I mean that they do not appear to have any insight into what they are deficient at.

  63. Aging Lemming Says:

    TT said there’s a rumor that Bill Case has taken a $50,000 pay cut . . .”

Just wondering said, “That’s wrong in so many ways; aside from the obvious! There are folks who work there full-time diligently and silently doing their jobs for years who don’t even earn half of his “slap on the wrist” salary forfeiture ‘penalty.’ . . . ”

I would love to see a WVU study that includes pay, sex, years of service and degree or even just statistics on average pay. A $50K pay CUT?!

I started at WVU with the same graduate degree as Case and progressively moved up. After 15 years, I made $40K and was the highest paid person in my unit.

  64. Aging Lemming Says:

Oh yeah, the study needs to include AGE.

  65. poliscigeek Says:

PPG: and everyone else did take the fall though they chose to do so (with pressure from the Governor, I am sure). Don’t you wonder how she lives with herself? How she goes to work every day knowing folks are looking at her differently, whispering about what has happened and questioning her credibility as well as credentials? I would not be able to do it as I would be so ashamed. Perhaps that makes me weak, I don’t know, but what I do know is that I could not live with myself had I been the one to cause this entire debacle. It is beyond comprehension!!!

  66. too much tv Says:

wasn’t there a skit a few years ago lampooning Arnold Schwarzenegger asking “How do you sleep at night?” His reply, “with two women on a big pile of money”.

Some folks have a different frame of reference.

  67. TT Says:

Poliscigeek, rumor has it that Ms. Manchin-Kirby-Bresch is despised by most of the Mylan employees (I can’t see her feeling they are co-workers); well, we have to assume that the CEO likes her. So I doubt that she feels much more animosity than she always has at Mylan.

  68. poliscigeek Says:

TT: Ahhhh yes…the CEO…..I hear he REALLY likes her. Checking out the Mylan Message Board today and noticed a comment there about lack of credentials and experience to have the position she holds at Mylan. I would have to agree. It is unlikely she would have a similar position anywhere else. And I agree with take on Ms. Bresch’s characterization of the Mylan employees - not co-workers, above that level. Quite unfortunate.

  69. A. Friend Says:

    http://olive.dominionpost.com/Repository/ml.asp?Ref=RFBvc3QvMjAwOC8wNy8xOCNBcjAwNDAw&Mode=Gif&Locale=english-skin-custom

Rumor has it that Garrison himself, as well as Lang, and all others at the “decision meeting” and Amy Neil are named in the faculty letter to the Office of Academic Integrity.

The pay “cuts” are insulting. The cuts equal the annual salaries or more for many WVU employees. Where is The Donald when you need him to say, “You’re fired!”

  70. PPGletter Says:

I can see how she’s managing at Mylan with the CEO’s support. Given the arrogance of her father’s statement about the ethics commission, it’s not hard to see where her “frame of reference” comes from.

If I were in her position, I’d be concerned about reputation in the industry and lack of respect/trust on the part of people she has to deal with.

  71. PPGletter Says:

RE: letter from MIR to OAI.

Was a copy of the actual letter made available to the press…it sounded as though the reporter was aware of its contents?

  72. A. Friend Says:

I don’t think the letter was made available to the press.

  73. Steph Says:

The OAI process is supposed to be completely confidential a la Ethics Commission investigations.

  74. fox hunter Says:

    http://www.wvrecord.com/news/213774-analysis-wvu-won-by-proving-rodriguez-is-no-dumb-jock

“…..As the suit advanced before Monongalia Circuit Judge Robert Stone, Rodriguez kept looking brighter and Garrison kept looking dimmer…..”

    Dim, indeed!

  75. Where there's smoke, there's fire Says:

Rumor heard recently: Wealthy boosters called Garrison before RR left WVU and told him to give RR whatever he wanted, and they would pay for it. Mojo called a few minutes later and said, dont give him ANYTHING he asks for. Garrison met with RR and said “no” to everything RR asked for. RR took job at Michigan the next day.

  76. mountainjammer Says:

PPG….poliscigeek on the money - Coury REALLY LIKES HB…he stands behind her and has suggested the BOD does as well. I find this all very interestinmg given the ethics issues, the poor performance of the stock, the lackluster perfomance of the company, AND the lack of credentials of some of those in charge.

  77. PPGletter Says:

Mountainjammer, I’ve heard about the Coury “support” from others, also. You know, we’re talking private sector and you’ve mentioned bottom line issues. If ethics doesn’t wake up Mylan shareholders, their portfolios sure do. This may get more interesting.
