You hit the nail on the head, SnoopDog. Get some big thinkers in (and not the usual suspects) and get them started asap.

Truly, state residents do not value the faculty. In part, WVU has done a lousy job of fulfilling its land grant mission. Hey, let’s take a look at the budget they have for outreach in various areas… piddly percentage of the budget, for sure.

Today on the Hoppy show a caller inner by the nzme of Paul blasted Hoppy for his analysis and commentary on this travesty and miscarriage of university responsibility. The most telling thing about him was his statement that ” the inmates were running the asylum”. That was a reference to the the faculty as inmates and the university as the asylum. All it said to me was that he fails to value the faculty who in my opinion are the university. Mike Garrison has been used by powerful people with big agendas …..he in no way was prepared to lead this institution but was believed to be the perfect person to carry out the policies of many who hide behind the smokescreen. We need big thinkers who can assemble competent leaders and begin to clean up this cancer that has become so apparent in the last 7 months……Stuart Robbins, Charles Vest and Tom Spellsburg for a start

Read elsewhere on hippiekiller blog. They have been so neglected etc that they have lost important accreditation necessary for important NIH funding.
This is not a new problem, but no public light has been shed on it. For sure, it limits ability to attract both funding and high quality researchers.

The Research Corp scenario is certainly believable, but I don’t understand the rationale that the University would give for going thru them. They may/may not be under the FOIA rules, but I would imagine that they chose to go thru the Res Corp for specific reasons that have more to do with visibility and transparency.

BTW, what are the “issues with the animal lab”???

Hey, a bar is where the big boys do their deals, so it’s quite credible. Who is head of research corp now that Weete has gone his merry way ?

It seems as if pressure on this place and on the animal lab issues would crack the place up a bit.

I have no scoop about who signed the consulting deal. my source heard this in a bar from two suits from hsc. could be bad information, but needs to be checked out by the press guys. it was probably ordered to be done that way by the front office and governor to bypass state purchasing laws because it was such a big contract. Does anyone know if FOI applies to the research board ?

Does anyone know what these consultants actually DO? I keep hearing that they have run roughshod over people, but no one seems to know what their actual expertise is, or what they actually do, or what is expected to come of their work.

there has been criticism about an out of state newspaper (PPG) starting all this mess and suggesting they stay out of WV, yet an out of state consulting firm is awarded a half million dollar contract to ‘fix’ our problems ! I am outraged !! what another example of a waste of money. Between Bailes salary and the consultants fee we could have saved $2million.
