Impressive stubbornness.

Ann: -- try them all again, even some who supported him when he got in are now reaching a new tipping point. All of you, please be respectful when you contact them. As Hippie pointed out, most of the emails they are getting from the anti-Garrison camp are too vitriolic and frankly some are scary. They are re-considering, keep that in mind. That in itself is a plus and a step forward. Treat them with respect and your arguments will be more successful. Screaming at them and intimidating them are not helping. Some of them are caught in difficult positions as they decide to speak out and some are being bullied from both sides themselves.

I actually have two thoughts:
1. The President's blog (http://president.wvu.edu/blog/2008/4/24/wvu-will-follow-panel-s-recommendations#comments) went from allowing comments, to not allowing comments, and then to accepting selected comments. It is clear that the comments are being closely monitored now, rejecting most negative comments and accepting all positive comments, giving the impression that a much higher percentage of responses are in favor of the President. This should be easy to verify by either taking a poll of those who've attempted to post or by just submitting a number of posts. This may seem like a small matter to some, but it is just one more example of spin and deception.
2. Here is a version of one of the messages I attempted to post to the blog:
Back in December this was all over the news from Associated Press:
"But university spokeswoman Amy Neil says information contained in the College of Business and Economics files simply was not recorded in the admission's office."
For whom was Ms. Neil speaking? Did those who had manufactured records communicate to the University spokeswoman that those records had once been contained in the College of Business and Economics files? Was there not a meticulous checking of facts before releasing such statements to the press? If the newspapers had misquoted or otherwise distorted what the official WVU spokesperson had said, why was there no attempt to correct the error? We've seen no such correction except that provided by the Special Investigative Panel.
According to the Special Investigative Panel, the University knew, at the time that Ms. Neil released this information that no such records had ever been contained in the College of Business and Economics files. These seem to be simple matters of fact. It was a cover-up at the highest levels.
It is ridiculous that Mr. Garrison claims to have handled this as he would have handled any other student's concerns. He asked top-level administrators to work over the weekend to produce documents that didn't exist, so they manufactured them. No employee, student, or alumnus would ever expect to be able to place a call on a Friday to complain about a record issue and have these kinds of draconian measures taken on his or her behalf. Most of us know that such inquiries are normally answered after weeks, months, or years of very slow progress -- if they are ever answered reasonably at all.
For those who fear the negative publicity and its consequences for the University, isn't it a thousand times more important to resolve this so as to preserve the integrity of the University?
There comes a time to just do the right thing regardless of the possibility that doing the right thing might involve some unpleasant consequences on the road to making things better.

Re: Olbermann, May he choke on his own vomit and do permanent damage to his windpipe--but then again I am a proud moderate Republican--so back on topic--and speaking of Republicans, all of us may end up owing a debt of gratitude to Republican gubernatorial candidate Russ Weeks. If his desire to talk about cronyism and corruption in state government grows legs, then Jumpin' Joe may have no choice but to get Garrison out of there just to prove a point and recapture (in his mind anyway) the high moral ground.

No, really, the pleasure is all mine.

BOG split, can you list the newer BOG members who might be open to considering a change? There's no point in appealing to connected good 'ole boys. I know BOG e-mails are listed elsewhere on this blog.

What did Manchin say about PhDs in life? This sounds like a ploy to create town-gown divisions--those pointy-head smarty pants don't live in the real world with us "down home folks"--say it with an accent (y'all know what I'm talkin about). Call out Scotland "yards".

The way to get the avg WVian on board with Garrison's & Manchin's ouster is to pin the blame for the Rich Rod leaving squarely on them. Which is starting to become more believable every day. Note that countering Manchin this way does not mean that Rich Rod shouldn't pay the 4 million (he signed the contract). Presenting the issue in a way that sports fans can identify with is the way to win the vote from the avg WVian.
