Not for profit organizations, such as the West Virginia University Medical Corporation, have to make annual filings with the IRS, on Form 990 and its associated schedules. These are public documents (mostly) and are available from the non-profit itself, and from websites. One of the things that is required to be reported is the compensation of the five highest paid employees other than officers, directors or trustees. (Compensation of those individuals is reported separately.) In 2005 (the most recent one I could easily find on the web), the top earner listed on WVUMC's Schedule A was----- Julian E. Bailes, M.D., at $1,573,489 (plus $41,012 in contributions to employee benefit plans & deferred compensation). In my view, poli sci is partly to blame for sending students perceived as promising out to Charleston thinking they're boy wonders. You may have noticed that calls for Garrison to resign have NOT come from poli sci. In my view, poli sci should be the STUDY of politics, rather than indirect involvement in the state's old boy network.
