Fluffy Speaks!!!

So Hoppy is talking about Heathergate right now. Updates coming!

11:06 When asked about the independence of Lang’s hand-selected panel, Lang said something along the lines of “WVU is able to police itself.” Uh, excuse me? Isn’t that what this is all about? That WVU retroactively gave the Governor’s daughter a degree when there was no evidence at all that she earned it? When it was pretty clear that she just quit going to class? I can think of no better evidence of the University NOT being able to police itself. That’s what this is all about.

11:23 This meme that somehow, Heather’s work experience counts or should count towards her degree is bullshit of the highest order. There are procedures for substituting relevant work experience for certain coursework, but not for 22 hours (nearly half) of coursework needed to complete the degree. That’s preposterous.

Furthermore. It’s almost always the case that a student has a certain amount of time to complete a program. At the College of Law, it was 6 years — measured from the time a student begins the program. I don’t know what the rules are for the eMBA program — but the suggestion that she could quit going to class halfway through the program, then 10 YEARS LATER say “hey, I’ve been working for Mylan — that counts, right!” makes me want to vomit.

11:44 Wow, it’s really clear that Hoppy is going to ignore this. Isn’t it funny that THE DEAN OF BROADCAST JOURNALISTS and host of THE MOST POWERFUL RADIO SHOW IN WEST VIRGINIA knows next to nothing about the biggest story in the state? I’m going to go punch myself in the face.

Did Hoppy ask if Lang thought that would be acceptable to outside parties? That credibility, already damaged, might suffer?

    I thought not.

All my years living in Charleston and I have never listened to Hoppy. Hoppy sounds too much like sloppy, soppy and skinny hooker, to me.

  5. mountain daddy Says:

Not to change subjects, but our governor has time to go to football games and interview coaches, while The Education Week’s Quality Counts report has this to say:

“The report also notes that West Virginia’s eighth-graders rank 50th in the nation for improvement.”

Way to go Joe and Gayle (he put is wife on the board)! and the
    Department of Education
    Higher Education Policy Commission
    WVU - Garrion and Lang
Education chairs - both House and Senate
W.Va Department of Education and the Arts - Goodwin
    The Charleston Gazette

You all fucking suck! You are screwing over the future of these kids. You too Heather Bresch. This would be fucking funny if it wasn’t so fucking sad. Impeach the bastards.

  6. Big Red Says:

In fairness, some of these people have nothing to do with secondary education. But it’s a good reason to make sure the Dept of Education, which is mandated and funded directly by the Legislature, stays out of the clutches of the governor. Caperton was the one that tried to get it under one of his cabinets when he reorganized state agencies; the Legislature said no, you can have the colleges.

  7. Dorothy Parker Says:

So during the Caperton Administration is when the Governors began to appoint Commissioners to the colleges? Does Joe appoint BOG for MU, WVSTATE U and the rest of them? I saw the list of WVU BOG in the Gazzette yesterday. If they vote to give Heather a Regents MBA degree before she has been cleared of possible academic dishonestly then they should be lynched. WVU BOG! at least PRETEND to care what actually happened and when. TRUTH is beauty.

  8. Big Red Says:

The Gov appoints most of the members of the BoG, I don’t know if that started with Caperton or not. But with Joe’s track record, he’d have fixed the board by now if it wasn’t already fixed for him.

Here’s most of the audio from Manchin’s interview with Hoppy. Too funny. Don’t have any food or drink in your mouth after about 1:50 in.

Mountaindaddy… You’re putting all the blame of poor education on a few people? I feel that education is not only what is given (provided) but what YOU put into it. How much a student puts into his/her studies comes a lot from his/her upbringing. Do you remember when you were in school and your parents would emphasize how important it was to study and get good grades? Then they would reward you with praise… If we want to change the education system, then you have to change the attitudes of parents. Not enough parents give their children the encouragement they need to succeed (Of course some students succeed without this support but I find it rare). This is evident in everyday life. I was provided with the same education as everyone else at my K-12 schools, but the reason that I would study more than others and get better grades is because they didn’t have the same support system at home… I thank my parents for encouraging me in such a way, but not everyone is blessed with this.

SO putting the blame on our state’s education leaders is just plain dumb.
